Similar to GE8M/504 but without video inserter. Requires
line and field syncs. PN3/54. Sub-units as GE8M/504 but
less UN26/534 and sync generator. DD 1980.
Visual Display Unit. This unit is a general purpose
character generator for Visual Display Unit applications.
It interfaces with the standard Designs Department Z80
microprocessor bus and provides a composite video output
for feeding a picture monitor. Syncs are internally
generated. The unit incorporates 2 kbytes of RAM,
accessible from the external bus, which is scanned to
provide up to 2048 displayed character positions. The
number of characters per display row and the number of rows
are programmable, and the character set is stored in an
EPROM. A cursor is provided. Power requirements +5V. 4U
unsupported card with 57-way double-aided edge connector
and PN1/29J panel. DD 1979. DDHB 2.467(82)
Vidiprint Caption Generator. This equipment will accept
teleprinter feed of 50, 75, or 110 baud, the output of
which may be displayed on a video monitor. Up to 35
characters per row may be displayed on a maximum of 16
rows. As there exists more than one version of the
equipment this is a basic description only. For a more
detailed description of the facilities available, see the
appropriate suffix A, B, C, etc. The basic version of
vidiprint, GE8M/506C supersedes the GE8M/504. There is no
sound on the GE8M/506 series. Power requirements 240V AC
mains. PN3/54. Supersedes GE8M/504. Sub-units UN26/32,
UN27/12, UN3/71, GE8/2, GE7/4, UN26/533, UN12/512, PS4/9,
PS2/187G. DD 1981.
Confax Vidiprint Caption Generator. The GE8M/506A
Vidiprint Confax is a variation of the basic Vidiprint
GE8M/506, and is designed to display information for the
Radio 4 Continuity Suite. It has provision for up to 4 8K
store cards (UN27/12) enabling it to display such items as,
news, weather forecasts, traffic information etc. The
information is displayed in a "box" or window over the
video on a monitor. The attenuation of the box may be
varied from nil to complete attenuation of the background
picture. See general description under GE8M/506. Power
requirements 240V AC Mains. PN3/ 54. Sub-units UN26/32,
UN27/12, UN3/71, GE8/2, GE7/4, UN26/553, PS4/9, PS2/187G.
DD 1981.
Radfax Vidiprint Caption Generator. Similar to GE8M/506
but with minor electrical modifications for use as RADFAX.
Power requirements 240V AC Mains. PN3/ 54. Supersedes
GE8M/504. Sub-units UN26/32, UN27/7, UN3/71, GE8/2, GE7/4,
UN26/553, PS4/9, PS2/187G. DD 1981.
Vidiprint Caption Generator. This equipment will accept a
teleprinter feed of up to 4800 baud rate as required, the
output of which may be displayed on a video monitor. The
display is contained in a "box" or window overlaid on the
video picture. The background picture within the box area
may be varied from nil to complete attenuation. Provision
exists for up to 4, 8K store cards (UN27/12). The
GE8M/506C supersedes the GE8M/504, but without provision of
a sound output. See general description under GE8M/506.
