MAJOR PROJECTS
New Video and Pulse Distribution Equipment
The routine redesign of obsolescent equipment started last year has
continued apace in 1977. Units originally developed over the period
1964-1966 have been carefully re-appraised from the user, circuitry,
performance and installation viewpoints. A critical factor in all cases
has been the correct choice between the facilities provided and the
physical size of the modules employed. Close liaison has taken place
with Studio Capital Projects Department on these aspects.
One of the short term problems of introducing a new generation of
equipment, on a new chassis system, is that the range of modular
functions available must be reasonably comprehensive so as to avoid the
necessity of mixing old and new equipment of differing mechanical
format.
In
this regard 1977 will see the completion of

the
important signal distribution units for modern television studios and

central apparatus rooms. The range of amplifiers, equalisers and delay
elements thus provided should permit their large scale usage, in an
integrated fashion, in new installations from 1978. This year's
forecasts for the designs completed represents a capital value of some
35K, an annual figure that should be easily maintained for the
foreseeable future.
Mini Computer Interface for Automatic Sound and Vision Mixers
Good progress has been made in 1977 towards the eventual introduction
into service of an experimental automatic mixer for network control. As
