MAJOR PROJECTS
The work of Measurement Systems Section covers both Television and Radio
and
includes
the
design
of
measuring
apparatus
and
test
signal
generators, the development of new and improved measurement techniques
to meet new or changing needs, and the assessment of commercial
measurement equipment as to its value and suitability for Corporation
use.
The three items described below which have been carried out during 1977
are important examples of the work of the Section.
Teletext Measurements
The Ceefax public information service which has been operating seven
days a week since September 1974 has recently been upgraded from
experimental status to full service. Operational experience during the
experimental period has shown that the criteria used to specify the
transmission quality of the colour television signal are not adequate to
define the quality of the Teletext signal. This has created a need for
a separate means of measuring Teletext quality based on a clear
definition of the important parameters of that signal.
